Seattle Gracie Barra Inter-School Invitational Tournament #2

Saturday June 28th 2008

On Saturday June 28, 2008 at 1000 am at the Seattle Academy, Rodrigo will be organizing another small invitational smoker style tournament. The last event was very enjoyable and we had tons of great competition. All Gracie Barra members are encouraged to contact Rodrigo by June 26th, the last day of registration, if they are interested in participating. Additionally, if you are in our extended family and think you might want to participate, please contact Rodrigo. We have room for some colored belt super fights. Our intention is to expose academy members to some friendly inter-school competition. Weight is on the honor system. All brackets will be determined beforehand. We want to really showcase some technical and graceful Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. If you have been on the fence about competition, this is a great opportunity to get your feet wet. Maybe a BBQ afterwards?

Fabiano "Pega-Leve" Scherner BJJ Seminar

Saturday May 17th 2008

Seattle Gracie Barra will be hosting Fabiano "Pega-Leve" Scherner for a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Saturday May 17th from 11-2 at the Seattle location. We will not be having regular classes. The cost is $50.00 and please contact Rodrigo at 206-335-0747 or email rodrigo@bjjseattle.com for information if you are interested. Fabiano Scherner is currently BJJ instructor for the Team Quest IFL team based out of Portland. Fabiano is an American Top Team Black Belt World Champion Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competitor, a veteran of the UFC, IFL, and HOOKnSHOOT. This seminar is a great opportunity to add to your game and receive top notch instruction from a world class competitor.

The Revolution 02.09.08

Jeff at Liberty Events and Promotions came by the academy to let everyone know about the next Revolution tournament on February 9th. This is a pre-registration event only and weigh ins will be at our Seattle GB academy on Friday the 8th. We had the most competitors of any attending academy at the last event, there is still plenty of time to train, and we are really looking to represent Gracie Barra Seattle at Revolution 02.09.08

12/29 Saturday Schedule Changed...

Good News! We are growing stronger everyday, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is growing all across the country, and The Seattle Gracie Barra Academy is no exception. Everyday we are looking at how to offer more instruction, more training, and more opportunities for our students to grow in our Gracie Barra family. Starting immediately Rodrigo has added a new Saturday class in addition to the open mat. This mean we are truly offering instruction everyday of the week! If you have any questions or comments, let us know?

12/2 Sunday Class off to great start...

December 2nd Seattle GB started offering a Sunday class in Seattle. Lead by Jesse Ruth, the class is an hour long workout with lots of exercises and stretches. You should expect a brisk warm-up, calisthenics, body weight exercises, a good ab workout followed by some long stretches. It starts at 10 and is it is open to everyone. If you cannot make the class, afterwards there will be open mat, rolling, and thinking about working some stand-up for anyone interested from 11 am until about noon?

Seattle Gracie Barra Represents at The Revolution

On Saturday November 10th, Seattle Gracie Barra traveled into the shadows of Mt. Rainer with carloads of competitors for Liberty Events and Promotions Revolution Grappling Tournament held at Bonney Lake High School. With four mats of jiu-jitsu action, everywhere you turned there was one of our teammates in the heat of competition and plenty more came out to show your support. We had several winners, 1st place Brown Belt Absolute, 2nd place Purple Belt absolute, 1st place white belt and we took in lots of additional wins. Everyone who showed up gave it their best, and if you were not satisfied with your performance there is no better time to start training for the next competition than right now. Pictures and videos are posted here as they are received at madongo@gmail.com.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

11/21/2007: The Seattle class has been canceled due to instructor illness. Everyone is invited to come over to Bellevue for a great class. We apologize.

If you have not had a chance to check out the new Seattle Academy, Thanksgiving Open Mat from 10 am until 12 would be a great time. Everything is really starting to come together at the new academy and Rodrigo is expecting a hodgepodge of visitors to come for a roll before the head out to family activities. Rodrigo is very grateful for all the help, this space has been a long time coming, and there are lots of people really working hard to bring everything together.

HUGE NEWS: 11/13/2007, Attention All Students.....

The last year has really flown by at the academy and the ranks of students are swelling everyday as more people discover how Jiu-Jitsu shapes and molds their lives for the better. Rodrigo has been grappling with ideas to secure and invest into the future of the academy and he is not taking his decisions lightly. After the uncertainty of the last two weeks, he realizes the academy is really shaping up and it has become a second family for many. It is growing and we can expect it to get larger. In response to this, he wants to make certain that we have the space to grow and he really wants to give us a more permanent home for the academy.

The big news is that Seattle Gracie Barra will be moving out of the Tullys Building and into a new facility. Rodrigo signed the lease today and he will be moving the mats through this weekend. Seattle Gracie Barra will be 100% independent and open for business on Monday November 19, 2007 in a brand new building less than one mile north of the current location. It is on the same side of the same road and the address will be posted shortly.

Rodrigo really has a vision for offering more classes at additional times and he wants to expand choices for the students to learn and grow. Please check back here often for updates. Over the next few weeks if you have any questions, want to discuss any issues with how this affects you personally, or you just want to chat then please call and talk with Rodrigo directly.

Note: In addition to the normal schedule, morning classes will be offered Monday through Friday every day over the two weeks following November 19th.

11.12.2007: Information about Seattle Tullys Academy

This morning it came as a huge surprise to Rodrigo that the new room at the Tullys building is not complete yet. The room was scheduled to be painted over the weekend, but as Rodrigo found out when he arrived, the schedule was extended. He is very ready to get this move out of the way and very disappointed that he has to delay and suspend Seattle classes for a few more days. This weighs very heavily on Rodrigo, as the academy and you (the students) are his livelihood, and we are very sorry for the inconvenience, but Seattle classes are now scheduled to resume the normal schedule in the new room sometime this week. Rodrigo is sincere in his apology about having to cancel classes and he hopes everyone understands when they see the new room, but in many ways this is out of his control. If you have any questions, want to discuss any issues with how this affects you personally, or you just want to chat then please call and talk with Rodrigo directly. The new room is on the opposite corner of the building from our current location. It is reached by turning off Airport Way at the small street adjacent to the Tully’s Coffee Shop and going directly to the rear of the larger Tully's building, and it has plenty of parking.
